Community enhancement: List of Sites
« on: 21. April 2010, 00:51:27 »
Edit by Cnegurozka:
To get more people playing CS Betas we want to spread the word to as many communities as possible!
So here you can post if you posted in a forum or created a group on some site etc..

List:
Facebook.com
xfire.com

Original post:

Interesting... I was surprised to fine just myself and cruchot in today's (20th April 2010) CS beta 5.2 meet up (just 2 of us - no fun, impossible to play CS on 2plyaers). Anyway, I was thinking a better way to round up more players would be to be closer to nudging them... like having their MSN, or XFire.

Having the Facebook group is great, but does mean having to sacrifice our real identities just to show up on the group.

Another alternative would be to create a http://www.meetup.com/ CS beta meet up group. We get a calendar to schedule the meetups and get notifications, aswell as who turned up, and submit screenshots and scoreboards.

Anyway, this is CS beta and it's gonna take a lot of work to get guys meeting up.. . and taking them away from Gears of War 2 or Halo 3 or MW6...

PS: XFire is great coz it'll automatically change your status to whenever you are playing CS beta... plus it auto-screen capture end-of-level scores... plus screenshot anytime you want, plus record video... and auto uploads to your XFire profile after the game, all automatically.

But spreading to more sites won't give you more players automatically. I think you should post/create groups etc. about Counter-Strike Beta everywhere, but not start seperate discussions, but try to link them here or to cruchot or to eisbaer.
I'm running:
Gameservers: HL Deathmatch | Firearms 1.2a | CS 6.1 | CS 5.2
And Teamspeak 3
... also BetaStrike.Net in general ;)

The facebook group is like a catalyst with millions of people (more than meetup I guess). That's why I've created it. I don't really know meetup.

xfire seems good but i don't like the dedicated software. We may use IRC (on quakenet for instance) to chat with friends/players (there are announcement plugins to know where people are playing). We can keep this forum to plan events (my forum can be used as a backup like said before).

http://csbeta.ndlp.info is an european mirror of http://eisbaer.essentrix.net (for load balancing)
http://cstrike.ndlp.info is my cs wiki, and I try to link betastrike & eisbaer websites/forums
http://csstats.ndlp.info is an experimental stats website

I think we were several to build websites about CS beta and recently we realized we're not alone anymore  :)

To sum up, I think we still need :

- 1 main forum (this one) w/ a backup (mine ?)
- 1 IRC channel to chat in real-time (like the old time)
- normalize maps (thx Eisbaer with his mappack)
- normalize this cstrike directory :p

Good idea, since facebook is a very cowded place.

Though I had a group on "StudiVZ" (german facebook clone), but I don't know one single player who joined us through there. :(

Again I agree with this. I use XFire on my gaming PC, but it's a bad idea to use some special system, because we need things that really EVERYONE uses, in order to get the needed amount of players.

I think having many websites separately is not a problem, what would be a problem is to have separate communities, but since we are having much exchange of information and events I wouldn't say this is the case with us.

I think this is a good choice at the moment, since the amount of people seems to be the highest here.

Yes, Quakenet has a lot of gamers already there, so it may be a good choice.

I have been in #betastrike like forever, we used IRC earlier sometimes but not to often.

- normalize maps (thx Eisbaer with his mappack)

This is already achieved as far as I know?!

- normalize this cstrike directory :p

Yes.

And still I would very much like mine to be that, since it enables you to play both CS Beta 5.2 and 6.1 with the same Half-Life installation etc. without going into Windows and renaming your folders.

The other possibility would be to have separate Half-Life installations, but this is even more trouble to set up and keep up-to-date.

I'm running:
Gameservers: HL Deathmatch | Firearms 1.2a | CS 6.1 | CS 5.2
And Teamspeak 3
... also BetaStrike.Net in general ;)

We could use this channel again, we may need a Q.

Yep, I'd rather say, keep mappacks updated and tested with news maps.

X-Fire Group
I created ourselves a X-Fire Group:

http://www.xfire.com/communities/counterstrikebeta/

I did a search on X-Fire previously and found no CS Beta groups. I think having a group there would help a bit since it will collect & store screen-shots/videos and log activity. Plus it's got calendar and other useful features.

Feel free to join. The more the merrier.
